AGREE! I just discovered Charice yesterday. And Cardcrusher, I am not her fan and I am not registered on her site nor I feel any urge to do so. I downloaded some of her videos from Youtube and that’s it. I never registered on any fan site to any celebrity in my 50 years.

I’m sure you realize it’s normal for fans to be zealous in promoting their idol. This is not a particular trait of Charice’s fans, it’s widespread. There will always be individuals that get too eager, but this is something I believe you would find in all camps if you did your research. Hence the impression of the number of fans Charice have, is probably no more distorted than impressions of other upcoming artists’ fan bases.
I’m excited to see how her upcoming album will do, and I hope the number of fans will continue to grow as they have lately (In my own country Charice is still unknown to most, but in the last month I’ve seen an increasing number of blog entries by Norwegian teens about Charice, and to my surprise her song Pyramid was the most requested song in my local area radio yesterday). It’s still too early to conclude how Charice’s future career will turn out, but quite a few key people in the US music business seem to believe there are great things in store for her. At the moment, I see no major reason to disagree with that, allthough I’m not blind to the challenges she will face.
On a final note It’s OK if you dislike the music or the fans of a young and upcoming artist. It’s even OK to voice your opinion a few times. But remember that from a moral point of view (artists are human beings just like the rest of us), being overzealous in spreading negativity directed at a young artist, is most often worse than being overzealous in giving positive support to that artist.

It is indeed too early to predict how Charice’s career will turn out, but with the generic singles of the upcoming album, it’d a be a mild success at best.

As for the gay club, there’s a reason behind it. Gays are early adopter and sets trends that would trickle down to the mainstream. I’ve already posted the proof of some Charice fans’ sock puppetry (and it is deception) and the appalling way it is condoned by their peers. You can follow the links (to both the source of the sock puppetry and the place they’ve vandalized) and look at the screenshots. There’s more to it (IP manipulation, using scripts to vote multiple times, etc), but the recent dropping of Charice’s song on two (??) stations due to people calling/ emailing/ voting from outside the station’s reach takes care of that problem.
Most fans probably don’t have the enthusiasm and fanaticism to create sock puppets and organize themselves to attack people with views they don’t share. Some Charice fans have gone over the top, and that behavior is no way limited and exclusive to them of course.
Why do I find it necessary to let the world know about it? To let others know of their evil deeds, and to warn bloggers about the hijackings (figuratively and literally) done by Charice fans.

hmmm…one of the reasons why I got more involved in tracking Charice and her success (besides the fact that she is so damn entertaining) is because I was getting angry that my local top 40 radio station was not playing her (my error was to directly go to the race card. i can’t speak for all minorities, but for me it does cross my mind whenever an unexplainable roadblock comes along) I didnt understand why they weren’t playing her when she had a lot of strong supporters…a pretty good single, and a great amount of talent. So I finally decided to do research, googled it, and yes, I found out that an ‘important” radio station in my area dropped her from their list because of the indundation of phone calls and spam mail (yes sock puppets)….well at least I know why… that answers my question.

Charice is still humble. I saw some of her interviews and she said that she has learned many things from Ellen and Oprah. Charice said that the thing she learned from Ellen is to stay humble. She has learned many things from others especially from the most influential people like Ellen, Oprah, David Foster. She knows what humility is.
She keeps herself humble what she learned from Ellen. She keeps her feet on the ground even she’s wearing nice shoes and it’s always on her mind. She’s telling other aspiring artists to keep humble and be patient and it will come if it’s for you. Charice is a humble person. For the record she’s not like other bad artists out there who got attitude. Come on guys be understanding and compassionate to others who don’t harm you.
Remember that haters can’t bring her down no matter what because she knows where she’s going. She knows what humility is. She even said that it’s okay for her even she’s not going to be big. I been reading most of the comments written here and my feelings or should i say my reaction is mix, i feel glad that people are actually sharing their opinions, i feel sad because some words are really unnecessary but still saying it anyway, just to be heard or just to hurt someone? i don’t know,
Well i will share my experience regarding the topic of this blog.
Mr. or Ms. Cardcrusher, i humbly look up to your idea of “charice fans leading deception” however, i would suggest if I may, which I am doing it now, please change the title of your blog to “SOME charice fans leading deception” I am a charice fan, genuine fan, so therefore I would not be included to your fight, I am a charice fan because i do like her voice, her spirit, her courage, her bravery, her goal to survive and be heard, no matter what obstacle she may be.
I agree with you, some charice fans are really over the top for being sensitive and over protective, but then who would not want to protect their idol? who would not be hurt hearing terrible words throwing at the person that became their inspiration?
The sock puppetry as you have put it is nothing i have heard of, my apology, i am not a computer geek as obvious like you, it could really hurt her i agree.
But not to the extent of creating a blog that encourage her haters to be more brutal. Your blog is undeniably causing hate and consequently pain, it didn’t give any justice to your agenda of “fighting deception”.
This will be my first and my last visit here, i did not extract any positive views from your blog.
Ceating a blog is something which I consider as privilage to people who can afford it, like you cardcrusher, write something meaningful, something that can contribute to be productive, and useful. Even a porn blog, it gives pleasure to soebody at least (well thats too pathetic) but we cannot deny that.

Can someone explain why Charice is now #151 on the charts in a matter of 5 weeks? She has so much exposure? Is the mainstream not buying the record? Maybe it is a failure. She will always have Filipino supporters but to be under that much hype under a “Major Label” she should have succeeded even more but I guess it really was just us buying her.

Am just curious. Yes it is fact that the album chartings slipped lower and lower without even peaking at No. 1 except for the Dance Club Play Songs Charts. It is also fact the she is the first Solo Asian to debut on Top 10 Billboard 200. Should’t that be a reason to celebrate instead of celebrating about the fall off the charts?
Truth hurts, it is true, especially when you shove it in the face. That is how comments here strike me. And it does not sound like stating facts, it is more of something like “I TOLD YOU” statement.

#162? no I think 173 this week…but maybe it will move up because of her Glee publicity. Geez..that just proved the power of having Oprah and David Foster having your back, even if you dont deserve to be on the #1 TV show in America, they can make it happen for you even if you have no acting background (And please people dont refer to her MMK special as acting experience!), do you know how many good actors could have landed that role? I personally hate Glee but im actually a bit more embarassed to watch her on Glee because I really dont feel that she fits in. I hope she doesnt try to moonwalk there lol! And Chasters, please dont think that she is gonna be the star of that show because Lea still carries that show!! Lea is a Les Mis star so i see a bunch of Lea criticisms already from Charice’s fans..I feel kinda bad for them because they seem so insecure of other mainstream artists (singers & now actors)

Regarding the “fair” treatment, I don’t go into a direction that would criticize her due to her looks or personal background. I keep it about the music and the figures (sales, charts, etc). Suffice to say, I’ve been “fair” when criticizing Charice.

bow bow clap clap. we have to accept reality folks! “luck” is the key word here and I know the industry is always based on luck but longevity is based on true/natural talent, true charisma, the IT factor how much universal appeal an artist has…which im sorry to say Charice doesnt have.
oh by the way, i also heard that Charice was dropped from a lot of major radio stations IE: LA’s KIIS because her “chasters” kept calling the stations, bombarding them with thousands of unsolicited emails and even the # 1 record in the country never got that much attention (Usher, Justin B, BOB). They would call even if they’re in the Philippines LOL which made them realize this is not a real “hit” the “public” not just Filipinos, want to hear. Everything is forced for this girl but I sure hope she enjoys every bit of it because Im really not sure if it will be around tomorrow, next month, year, decade.
But you never know Oprah & David has a lot of money to throw away, maybe she wants to prove herself and not take back what she said about this girl making it big.

Got a quick question, is 2 mil youtube viewers actually 2 million individual separate hits or is that collective 2 million hits INCLUDING replays? I mean I just have to ask basically because I’m just curious; as it is I prefer FACTS & STATS.
Because it actually SEEMS the 2 million YOUTUBE viewers DID NOT positively impact her current position in the charts where she’s at (#173) which covers actual sales gains and airplay of the album, THE NUMBERS DON’T COMPUTE. Unfortunately, like you said, some of the airplay was impacted with pull-outs by overzealous fan activity.
For the numbers TO COMPUTE, why don’t they (chasters/fans) just buy 10 ALBUMS EACH DAY! (then they can materialize the 2 million Youtube viewers they claim), maybe then her album can do a magic ressurection and jump up at the coveted spots in the charts. OTHERWISE, everytime they yell HATER at non-fans, and they just watch CHARICE’s ALBUM NOSEDIVE, or SWEAR nobody can really come near her (talent) etc….it’s REALLY ALL JUST HOT AIR!
After all, the caveat (def. the burden) to prove that there’s really millions and billions or (youtube viewers/fans) infinite proportions, of her HUGE MARKET ACCEPTANCE, is on her fans. The MARKET RESULTS from the current chart position (which is almost the base bottom) SAY THE EXTREME OPPOSITE!
Blog comments, online polls are NEVER the basis of album sales gains & chart positions, for the reason that just because you wrote a STUNNING comment , HIGH PRAISES etc.(or insults to non-fans) you CONVERSELY bought an album with EACH COMMENT that you post, that’s why it’s ALL JUST HOT AIR!!! Asian Americans have a habit of not supporting their own. I still can’t believe that the highest grossing Asian American film of the last decade was seen more overwhelmingly by non Asian Americans.
As for Charice fans, I’m sure a good portion shelled out money for albums and concerts, but there’s not enough of them. They like to brag about album sales, Youtube views and the “over 6,000” that came to watch Charice in Toronto, but it really appears that there’s little crossover success.

She will eventually win Grammy’s, who knows she wins Best New Artist Next Year, if not, there is still year after next year.
I find it rather weird documenting the slip of her album on the charts. Obviously you are not fond of her. Others would document her achievements because that is a normal thing to do, but to monitor her fall is a sick thing and not only that, you see to enjoy it. Billboard charts include not just album sales but also air play. If you look at the fine print with the asterisk, if an album jumps from position to another, it’s marked with an asterisk:
i.e.139** Titles with the greatest airplay and sales gains this week.

Just want to remind chasters to follow radio etiquette rule No. 1 as posted in the Radio Campaign article: “Never ever call a radio station out of your listening area. It will look fake or forced to the radio station and it will do more harm than good.

Radio Request Etiquette: Please Read
Ok, I know you can hardly wait to start calling & emailing but FIRST we need to go over a few rules:
1. Never ever call a radio station out of your listening area. It will look fake or forced to the radio station and it will do more harm than good . It must, organically, look like a hit.
2. Please be aware that the station may not be able to get to your request right away but they do make note of requests and requests will certainly impact the station’s playlist.
3. It’s not a good idea to call the DJs too much or spam their in-box. That could really work against us, so just one call/email a day will be enough… ok, maybe two, like a friendly reminder “hey how come you haven’t played my song yet?” Don’t be obnoxious please, you know what I mean, I hope.
4. If the stations in your area are already playing Charice’s Pyramid, call the DJs anyway, e-mail and let them know how much you appreciate them, how much you LOVE the song.

Thanks for the tidbit about her Billboard 200 position this week. It’s interesting that airplay increased this week as well. I thought that “Pyramid” is already dead, buried, and forgotten.

Airplay is also subjected to marketing investments by record companies, basically that means that they can put money in to increase promotions/airplay on an album or a single that find it needs to do so to further push it. Some radio promotions are considered bogus because of it, a few too obvious , that some stations get the flak in their emails from the public for it.
Club plays can also be paid for increased DJ plays, it doesn’t mean the party crowd actually asked for it. Now how do I know this? LOL shall we say reliable sources.
For one thing, I’m not so focused on charts alone. At this time here in NA, I can tell you there’s NO magazine covers (we are talking about charise), NO marketing items such as (T-shirts, notebook covers, collectibles etc). There’s NO visibility of such nature. I don’t mean to harp on Bieber, but he’s on TEEN MAG covers almost every week, he also has his own TV show every week on Sats; Miley Cyrus hosted the recent MMVA awards (that’s a lot of visibility)and she’s in mags all the time, course she’s got her videos too; Nikki Yannofsky modelled a recent spring collection in a mag, did a cover in another, she’ll be the youngest playing solo artist at the NICE (France) Jazz Festival at 16 and the list GOES ON, (I think I’m running out of space for Taylor Swift too).
So they not only do guest appearances etc. because everyone does that, but they have marketing exposures that mainstream is lapping up. For sure, mainstream is a consumerist culture, and Bieber, Cyrus, and the rest HAVE THE STUFF that is being “CONSUMED” by the mainstream. Not to mention repeated video plays on MTV, MMV, MOD. It’s NOT JUST ALL AIR PLAY’S EITHER that make it to the mainstream recall.
What the charice official site harped on was a quipped review on People Magazine, which I’m sure everyone is familiar with, but let me run it again, but try to read it again and this time without bias and see what it really means (it will be in all caps so it won’t be missed):

I’m not sure how this was translated, but this is by no means a positive review, this is what you call a HO-HUM review. It was given a 2 out of 4. If anything this points out that the album has not successfully found a niched category (r&b, pop, hip-hop, etc) and it’s something that’s been heard of before (by the mainstream).
Also, this was the only mag appearance/mention ever, if AT ALL. It’s just something you also should be aware of before you all start harping about WHO’S MORE TALENTED THAN WHOM (which really you shouldn’t do, it makes anyone who does it really look NAIVE, it’s not the ONLY thing that counts for any long term success, and you all know the precedent examples show it.)
You see, IT’S NOT JUST ALL ABOUT THE TALENT that makes the difference! If you want to compete this is the competition arena, if you think you can bring it, do it. But talent IS JUST ONE THING! Question is, does your girl HAVE anything else in the bag, because your girl will be asked for it.
Is there A POSSIBILITY for success with your girl? SURE, as there is an equal POSSIBILITY for her NOT to succeed in view of what she’s up against ! Oprah & Foster ain’t god (with all the references to them I keep reading i.e. but she’s got oprah & foster etc.) and they can’t really guarantee anything, no one can in that business. Sure, they can give you ‘promises’, they can always do that, and you can always believe it. (Reality checks sometimes may be nice too once in awhile too.)
In fact, I say Raymond Usher is doing a helluva job marketing Bieber, why don’t y’all hire him instead for your girl?! Because if he can do a genius marketing for Bieber with what you say “lesser vocals” than your girl, maybe he can help her out.

Nicht. you might not be focused on charts, but the important charts (Hot 100 and BB200) are useful in engaging Chasters. They don’t respond well to opinions not in favor of the copycat, and pointing out the major charts is a very useful way to point to them that mainstream America is not getting on the Charice bandwagon.
I agree with you that she has little to no mainstream buzz at the moment with the exception of the Glee casting (and that’s limited to who pays attention to the show or TV stuff in general).

Addendum:
She has one recent interview with Verve mag while she was in Toronto (June 11), which was released right next to a Miley Cyrus article and an article on the MMVA that Cyrus hosted where you get to see a photo of Bieber and an MMVA (June 25) photo of Cyrus and other celebs (no fan of Cyrus and Bieber either, but that’s what they’ve got). They have got to WORK ON the regular covers etc. Mainstream recall is so short, there’s just too much competition.
Video plays on Yahoo (that’s internet, not quite MTV and the other franchises it has to get there too), and let’s see how long it stays there, it has to stay longer than a debut period.
It’s a longs ways to go just yet.

Do not assume that if someone does not write as good as you, they do not know what they are talking about. I quoted her to send you a message. Well it seems like it is a victory, because since that instance, you were not anywhere to be found in that blog. Unless you tell us or otherwise prove us that we were not victorious, we would not have a hint nor we would not believe we lost. How can you win a battle if you are somewhere hiding and thinking you won, while your enemy are also celebrating thinking they won.
Have you seen the charts lately? She climbed a few notches back so your Flopville as of yet is just a fantasy.
By the way, how do you define flop? As far as the album is concerned, it is a success for a debut in Hollywood, unless you can prove it otherwise. And in doing so, you must appreciate, this is her first international release, she is not as popular as Bieber, yet, but to debut at No. 8 is a big feat. Unless you are expecting for No. 1.
And how do you define SUCCESS?
By the way, you seem to be concerned with the performance of her album, have you done enough to support her? Rather than “concentrating” on spreading into cyberspace that it is a flop. If you would say, you do not need to support her because you do not care, do you think you need to care for whatever happens to her album.
Aside from the album, there are positive things that are entailed to her success. She has opened a lot of doors for Asians and Filipinos, don’t you think that is not worth writing about?

Regarding the “fair” treatment, I don’t go into a direction that would criticize her due to her looks or personal background. I keep it about the music and the figures (sales, charts, etc). Suffice to say, I’ve been “fair” when criticizing Charice.
The same cannot be said for some Charice fans like Berto who recently dropped by.

If anything, Charice’s case exposes how Filipinos still suffer from colonial mentality. Imagine that, they would only support one of their own when a certain copycat gets recognition and publicity from Americans and Canadians.
The same can be said about Arnel Pineda. Very few people gave a damn about him, but once Journey cam knocking, it’s all about “Pinoy Pride”. It also led to Filipinos too young to remember Journey at its peak, coming out of the woodwork to jump on the bandwagon.

Clique is the perfect example of a true chaster..soooo defensive…cant take criticism she is NOT in Justin Biebers league that her fans claim she’s in, so stop talking trash about other mainstream artists as if she’s dethrowned them already. her fans are overly smart thinking they are the music industry’s greatest gift. they also like to drop knowledge like they really know how the industry runs. i can always tell when someone posting about charice is filipino because they praise her like she is heaven sent and that shes better than the original singer that sang the cover that charice is doing. its actually kind of funny & pathetic at the same time. oh by the way, why does she always do home videos of covers? is she trying to prove that she can do better than the original singers? by the way, please dont think that shes getting all this hype for free…take note her publicist is MADONNA’s publicist, not just Boy Abunda..why do you think she’s getting all this headlines? They (her fans/chasters) simply cannot take any kind of criticism about her, as if she is SO PERFECT and BEYOND imperfection. What does that mean, it means one thing, they’re showing A NAGGING FEAR, and that their fear is that CHARICE DOES NOT HAVE EVERYTHING TO CUT IT IN THE BUSINESS!!! I agree that mainstream America is too jaded to buy into the rags to riches plot. It worked for Eminem because he had something to offer that enough of the mainstream liked. The story didn’t work in the case of Fantasia Barrino due to a couple of reasons. The lesson here: if one has IT, the mainstream will lap up one’s story and whatever one is peddling. I hate to say drop reality check on you guys but I know she’s not quite in Christina’s league yet, but Christina sold a whole lot of copies (compared to Charice) but yet she’s still considered a failure in the industry? Scary isnt it? But do you really think they would put more money behind Christina or Charice? If Charice is droppin and falling off the charts like a meteor, what do you think is going through the MAJOR Record Labels minds right now? Do I keep this artist? or do I let her go?

First of all, I notice that you tend to assume. This is not all about talent. She is just starting, so she needs a publicist. Do you think, if they do not believe she has talent, they would hire someone like Liz Rosenberg? And do you think Liz will just accept the offer even if she does not see talent in the one she is representing. She will not risk her reputation. Have you heard Liz’s interview about Charice? Madonna did not become popular overnight, it did not happen in a snap, but with the help of Liz and her talent, she curved her name a long time career.

Why do you blame Chasters? Do you expect fans to just keep quite when Charice is attacked unreasonably. Some will not care, but some will react. Have you tried doing the same to Justin Bieber? Or to any other singers? Am sure you will get the same if not worse reactions.
It is not up for the Chasters for the non fans to love her. It is for the non fans to find in their hearts that this girl deserves a chance and respect.

Let’s see the options are, Christina or charice? That is a such a funny one. LOL Aside from the fact that Christina is an A-lister in Hollywood, charice is a NO-lister in Hollywood! (Oh this is sooo funny) Note: she only gets into the hollywood crowd only if foster/oprah is around (right they’re the A-listers, now you get it, lol).

That her Pyramid video debuted #1 and surpassed Lady Gaga’s and Christina’s….Ex-squeeze me? ….Yeah it was on the Yahoo video charts. Yahoo IS an internet search engine! (LOL) You really debuted her video there? (note of ironic disbelief) What’s wrong with debuting in MTV, MMV, MOD and getting ripped apart by the mavens there? What?!? Oh that’s right! You can’t take any criticisms of her. But everyone’s videos gets ripped apart by the video critics there, but they all survived.
What’s the matter? You don’t think her video can cut the butter there in the music video franchises?! Oh right, her management is just waiting for the perfect time! So something gives it the same band-aid solution as it does now. You know what I’m talking about, bringing it up from #173 to #139 (64 spots) when her video magically debuted #1 in billboards yahoo video charts?
Can I tell you something COOL about #139? IT’S NOT QUITE IN THE TOP 40! (Heck its not even in the #100) And at the end of the week what the radio stations care to hawk as the songs worth mentioning are those in the TOP 40, and then there are the really nit-picky stations that ONLY DO THE TOP 10! Your girl’s single isn’t quite in either one of the weekly notables worth mentioning.
Aint that a COOL thing to think about? How much longer must you keep the band-aid solutions on, because the video if it weren’t a band-aid solution, should have been released vis-a-vis with her album, as a systematic marketing SOP, in the RIGHT channels!
That’s why Usher’s done a helluva job with Bieber because he did not do a “Western Spaghetti” job out of Bieber’s marketing, Usher did him right! As for your girl, the same thing simply CAN NOT be said!

I am just wondering why couldn’t you answer my simple question:
What can she do to change your perception of her?
Even if the reaches no. 1 on the Billboard Charts, which is by the way, not impossible, even if she wins Grammy’s Best New Artist, which is very very possible, even if she proves all your rantings wrong, not remote, you will always have something to say, that 101% sure.
Another thing is sure, why you seem to rush her. She just released her debut album, and you expect her to be on top in a wink? Like you said, it is not all about talent, it is hardwork on her part and on her team’s.
By the way, you seem to know a lot about the industry, have you tried to launch a singer and made him/her famous, because seems like you know every bit of it. Based on what you wrote, you can make someone really popular.

On the mention of what’s on the newstands. It’s NO wonder I couldn’t find Verve Girl, when one of my friends told me its a canadian mag, but’s NOT SOLD on the newstands or anywhere its distributed FREE in schools, only in Canada. (It’s approx. 6inches by 8inches in size.) Oh okay that’s why!
It begs the question: she had a free concert in Toronto, then she had an interview in a FREE mag? Then she has an official video for the album debut just a few short weeks later in yahoo’s video charts (which is just an internet search engine). The chronological activity of her marketing DOES NOT follow good logic.
All the major cities in North America have music video franchises. Having a freebie concert at a mall then to simply slip away without soliciting exposure with any of the music video franchises (when by this time her video should exist), and work instead for an interview with a FREE magazine, that just begs for marketing retardation as an excuse.
Now if the proverbial excuse is that the video was done after the freebie concert, that’s still NO excuse, unless her marketing really DID NOT have any intention to debut her video to CREDIBLE music video channels (i.e. MTV, MMV, MOD). As to why, THAT ONLY INVITES DOUBTS as to the strength of the video’s acceptability, that even her marketing might be questioning….HMMMMM!

As to your comment that Liz will not take on any act because it will ruin her reputation, are you not aware that Liz left WARNER to start her own company and that she is Davids loyal PR? So are you saying that this is not the work of David Foster and that she just naturally believes in Charice thats why she handled her? Publicists are HIRED they make money off of people that want to be publicized so it is rare that some folks can afford high end PR firms such as Liz & Roger & Cowan & more but when you’re paying a PR 5-10K a month…you better make sure she’s doing the job. So do you think she would turn down a paycheck of that much? (And yes high end publicists do get paid that much)! I did not say it is not through DF, but you should realize that not everything is about money, especially on the status of Liz, how much is that money for her? she has to consider who she is representing. Oh my gosh! Someone did notice! You know there is A DICTION FAILURE from THIS GIRL! Who is she trying to mimic, someone from the Bronx or Queens? She is terrible! She starts her sentences with inane “you knows”, that is SOOO street talk! (IT IS VERY ANNOYING!) Oh heck yeah, the Toronto mall concert was a FREEBIE, and then they (chasters) touted her ‘interview’ with a FREE magazine AS IF it was such a big deal. YEAH right!! Now that’s really funny!! Like you couldn’t even find that free magazine in which she had that ‘interview’ anywhere in newstands because its distributed FREE in canadian secondary schools only. It’s also very small, like I was told it’s approx. 6 inches x 8 inches, so it would be like half the size of Teen Vogue or Teen Beat etc.

That is SOO typical isn’t it, that they only got there best peak at a time when the market was at a slow down. Timing it perfectly so they wouldn’t bang heads with more established and more sales-drawing artists. That’s a cheap way to avoid competition. BUT were they able to maintain that position?? Beiber on his 13th week was STILL IN THE TOP 10. While their girl on her 6th week was lickin’ bottom at #173.
SO REALLY with only 40K+ album sales she weasled into the top 10 with her debut??? INTERESTING… How do the chasters think she can ever be more popular than Bieber (lets not even mention Christina). Sarah, Billboard 200 No. 8 Debut is still No. 8 regardless of the total sales. She has made history no matter what and that you cannot deny. Even if No. 8 of other artists sold 500,000, they are still on the same rank chartwise.
See, she may have sold 43,000+ on its first week of sales, you can never tell how many more she can sell.
You think Pinoys will not watch her concerts. How about her PICC concert? People watched, though am not sure, if your 5,000 mark was hit. But you should consider, PICC ticket prices against other venues, they are more expensive.

hey Clique..again let me just tell you that Lea has TRUE fans, and not only true fans but borgoise rich (classy) fans that can afford to pay the ridiculous ticket prices in the Philippines, unlike the fake chasters that are only riding along Charice’s fame because Filipinos are so obsessed with trying to break into the mainstream! Unfortunately I wish we did have someone decent to represent us in the music mainstream world but I dont just buy into who’s “lucky” but I admire someone who really deserves it and who I feel can really represent us the right way. I dont buy into hype the way “our people” do. I hate to say that but Im just speaking the truth. Again I am filipino which is why I know our mentality. I agree with Sarah to some extent. Many Charice fans are only on the bandwagon because she received attention from Americans and Canadians in the entertainment industry. The Filipino community in the Philippines and in diaspora didn’t pay much attention to her before she got invited to the Ellen DeGeneres show. A certain portion of her fanbase only became fans because of the attention she got from the American entertainment industry.
I’ve always posed the question if her Filipino fans of the copycat would be around if she were Thai or Malaysian or Vietnamese. So, Clique, care to address that point?

I disagree with you about many Filipinos knowing her during her stint on that contest. I know many Filipinos IRL and online who don’t pay attention to shows back “home” let alone have TFC subscriptions. Furthermore, I noticed that many just jumped on the bandwagon when she started her copycat shtick as an invited guest at Ellen and Oprah.
Why would I be excited if one person who happens to be of the same ethnicity as me is invited to do some karaoke on Ellen? I’m not shallow, and ballads aren’t my thing.
If deluded Chasters do not go around the net spamming, acting like barbarians, committing sock puppetry, and generally act like onion skinned fools, I would not give a damn.

this girl is handed everything she’s got which is another reason I dont really feel she’s well deserving. Who gets an album release date on their bday, same week of her FAKE supposedly baptism with all the big wigs in the industry (who gets baptized at 18 and asks all the powerful execs in the Philippines to be her godparents) talk about showing off!!, oprah re-aired her special, gets a part in Glee probably without even auditioning, gets handed the world? Thats insane! But of course in not even 2 months her album falls off the charts? Doesn’t seem to add up when you’re talking mainstream numbers. By the way, MONEY is everything in the industry. You dont make the record labels money in the industry they will drop you like a hot cake! If they cant recoup what they spent on you on just the 1st single, then you better pray they have that much belief in the artist that theyll push a 2nd single. If they can drop A-List artists like Mariah, Brandy, JLO and these artists sell MILLIONS and I mean millions, what makes you think they’ll keep a 43K unit selling artist unless of course Oprah puts up her own label and just wants to throw away money. Oh the bday release is easily explained, Warner as any recording co. like Sony etc would have a roster/schedule of the album releases of the artists in their stable as well as the releases of competitor companies. So it WOULD NOT make sense for them to release it at a time such as March, when Bieber who is a HOT seller will be releasing his 2.0 (which by the way sold a certifield platinum less than 2 months after its release = 1M+ album sales) or Usher, Katy Perry, Eminem etc. ‘coz that would head-butting a ‘NOBODY’S’ album with superstars who have superseller potential.
So they come up with a MARKETING SPIEL, like time it when it would be optimally released for investing their money, and her b-day just came into convenient play. THAT IS MORE LOGICAL and MAKES MORE SENSE than just sentimental “LETS TIME IT on this “special genius'” bday because she’s so ‘FRICKIN’ special”, which makes NO SENSE if you’re putting your money (millions) on it! AND EVEN THEN it sold only HOW MUCH???? 43K of album sales and NOW ITS COMPLETE DISAPPEARED FROM THE CHARTS!???!!!!
I guess they did the re-airing of an old special is because to actually spend more money on a NEW SPECIAL is just too much money to spend (you’ll have to get and pay for celeb guests), so it’s easier to just SIMPLY PAY FOR AIR TIME and re-air the same old sob-story and maybe the audience will remember the “FRESH OFF THE BOAT” image and BUY THAT instead, if they’re NOT GETTING the revised one they’re selling!……….ah I can’t relate with the baptism thing, isn’t that done with babies??!!!!……SEE WHAT I MEAN!! NOTHING about her makes any sense! I CAN’T BUY THE IMAGE SHE’S SELLING!!!
About the Glee thing, everybody talks as if the new season’s already aired and as if her fans who are so OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY ANYWAY, put out as if they have access to the NEW SEASON SCRIPT! I think after they’ve done the finale the cast would be busy shooting the new season, but whereabouts is she now?….prepping for an ASIAN tour? (now why did her management toss her way out there when she hasn’t fully caught all of the mainstream??? HMMMM)….IS THAT RIGHT?…they can BUY her the part…but a lot of #1 shows have been axed the past season because of AUDIENCE DECREASE!…if she causes any mainstream TV discontent or bad reviews…well I wish all their imaginations LUCK! It’s crackin’ their eggs far too early!!!
The first album is the market test whether or not the artist is saleable or not! It’s ONLY July and she’s GONE in the charts, your right again Sarah, they WILL HAVE TO RECOUP the money they put on her, and 43k album sales will not give them back the millions they put on her! You’re just going to have to wait for my in depth solutions. As already stated, I’m still on a phase of raising awareness about the problem. I’ll give you a hint though: the solution lies within Charice fans raising their expectations and not tolerating mimicry, along with dropping the baggage of colonial mentality. Needless to say, it’s an enormous task.
BTW I’ve been hammering the point about the aping committed by Arnel and Charice longer than the AntiPinoy guys.
In any case, if one reads between the lines when one reads my two Charice related blog posts, the framework of the solutions become apparent.

Didnt people vote on that show? To be fair to Charice fans and Charice herself, there is a small group of fans that has been around since her days of entering singing contests. I do have to mention that person who uploaded videos of her. She and her fans owe that person for playing a small but crucial role in her “international” discovery. They are dwarfed though by the bandwagon jumping fools who now cite Charice as the cause of their inflaming “Pinoy Pride” as mentioned on this link.

Who cares HOW Lea Salonga got to be a perfect English speaker – the FACT IS SHE IS AN ELOQUENT & PERFECT SPEAKER! That only proves that it is POSSIBLE for someone from where she’s from to accomplish it! WHY should hollywood and mainstream settle for anything less and simply accomodate a singer with a diction problem who is incapable of finding a niche for herself?!!
Who cares how? Well if you know her story, you would not ask why. If you knew that not all Filipinos can afford to send their children to private school, where, unfortunately, education is much better than the government can afford to provide.
They would rather buy food that send them to a more expensive school. It is possible depending on your resources, but not on her case, where at the age of 7 she had to join contests to put food on their table and not to buy english books.
Did you hear her speak the first time she went to the US? Don’t you agree that she has improved a lot?
Don’t you believe that she can improve her diction and accent more?
Is it really the DETERMINING FACTOR that if a singer or an actor cannot speak fluent English, he/she has no place in Hollywood.
What about the case of Celine Dion? Up to now, her English grammar is not perfect. Is it because she speaks French and Charice speaks Tagalog? How about the case of Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz?They still have accents but they made it. Is it because they speak Spanish and not Tagalog? Or they have the IT factor which for you Charice does not have, which is, like beauty, is subjective.
Is there some kind of discrimination here?
Since she has an accent, and has no IT, who, then instead of her, should be bashing in the limelight? Who is more deserving?
Why then, Ellen smells the star in her?
Why then, do you think Oprah believes she is the most talented girl in world.

Here’s my new reply: Here is something NEW that I will introduce in your vocabulary, it’s called RHETORICAL QUESTION ~the question functions as a negative assertion, as a challenge not requiring a response.
FACT:In the United States here has been no updates on any NEW sales that has been publicly posted anywhere! The billboard charts base unit count on US/NA sales, hence may explain why her album is NO LONGER IN THE BILLBOARD CHARTS! If you are still buying, billboards won’t be counting it! It’s only the north american sales and air plays, it’s got something to do with the RIAA certification (do your homework, we know how it works, you figure it out)!

Or you could have spent your time writing a book, so that, after your demise, people will remember you more as someone who inspired people or wait, why not make music since you seem to know a lot about music or why not teach English in school to teach people especially those who are not perfect english speakers.
Let me see, I think I know the reason, you cannot do any of the above, that is why you blame your frustrations on an innocent girl who has done nothing wrong.
A girl who at 18 is already a millionaire, yet she cannot speak and write perfect English. Just because you’re an UNORIGINAL PLAGIARIZER (who twists what I write incapably), and who also TRIED TO STEAL MY HANDLE NAME IT DEPLORES ME TO even engage directly, BUT it’s necessary to REMIND YOU TOO that I told Chris 22 (which I’m, sure You did NOT READ) that I USED TO HAVE ALL OF ‘YOUR GIRL’S OLD ALBUM including a CHRISTMAS SINGLE that was included in a 2009 album collection last year (SO I did buy her album albeit the earlier one on amazon to give chance to an newbie, altho’ IT WASN’T WORTH IT ANYWAY IN THE END!).
All of which I REMOVED any trace of her music from my library and the reason is because I WAS REPULSED BY ALL OF THE CHASTER’S and their obnoxious attitudes and their DISGUSTING, MANIPULATIVE way of engaging people who HELD independent opinions that did not agree with them!
Mainstream doesn’t like to buy anything just because it feels sorry for it! Beyonce knows that, Lady Gaga knows that, Cyrus and Bieber knows that! She wants to sell, let her put out. Right now she’s not setting any trends she’s FOLLOWING them, MAINSTREAM DOES NOT BUY FOLLOWERS, we don’t DIG THAT!

Whether its copycot or not – if its good, its good! Mariah Carey is a copycat, too – i.e. Michael Jackson’s “I’ll be There.” Don’t put your foot in your mouth! On the contrary, I made my positions too late. I am vindicated by the lackluster results of Charice’s album and single. A flop in terms of the Hot 100, and an album that quickly sank to the bottom of the Billboard 200. The numbers of people who didn’t pay attention to what Charice peddled tells the whole story.

I just think all of this is sort of BS. Both from cardcrusher and Charice’s fan. I don’t think it’s good to go to an extreme as sock puppetry to promote your artist. To be fair however, going to an extreme to put an artist down isn’t good either. As far as Charice future is concern, I can’t predict the future if she is going to be a world diva or not. There is still a lot of years left in here. If she is to become a diva then more power to her. But ultimately what I am trying to get at is it’s ok to support your artist, just don’t put other artists down just to promote your own. Everyone have there own voice even if they “imitate or copy” other artist’s song. You got to start somewhere, when you don’t have enough of your own song, sing songs from other artists to until you have enough of your own songs to showcase your individuality.

Ok I read most of the comments here and I just want to speak as an unbiased appreciator of music and arts.
When I first heard Charice, I am at awe at her vocal range, her stage presence and charisma. She makes for a perfect entertainer. If not for her asian look and poor background she would have had a better chance at the American market. I passed by her in Toronto when she performed there and it was… seriously. Just out of this world. I don’t know why. I never really liked singers who shouted much. But as I’ve said earlier, she have perfected her tonal and vocal control and it didn’t make my ear hurt. So I appreciate her efforts, live performances and humility. She might come off as arrogant but she’s quite a sweet girl when you meet her irl.
Now about her CD flopping. You already acknowledged the fact that she’s asian, so obviously you should know that Americans don’t take diversity in music too well. And that in American media sex and shallow beauty sells. All of which allows albums to top in Billboard 200. The Billboard that you base everything on. Charice is not beautiful, in generic terms at least. But she have another kind of beauty within her. Her voice and stage presence. Music is to be heard, felt and understood. Not to be judged by sales and the appearance of the musician/singer.
Granted, she is not as popular as other idiotic Charice fans may think. But you cannot deny the respect and awe she instills in other musicians and singers. Because even I, one of the most cynical critics in music and arts had to admit that she does, have that strange “IT” factor. Not to mention she have a good personality and attitude that keeps propelling her forwards. And for her songs, try Note to God. The song is made for her and it’s actually quite beautiful.
I will not bash you because it is a waste of time. I only commented here to explain how I feel about Charice’s CD. Now if we’re talking about the fans. I kinda agree that most of them are too obsessed with her. But I’m speaking good drugs obsessed and not JB obsessed where people are idiotic to the point of no return. Pity and let them be, I understand that Filipinos have a hard time building their own identity. And let them be. You don’t need to be discriminative to express an opinion. Hate is not productive and I seriously do not know how you could obsess over a human being who hasn’t even done anything to you. Trivial as trivial goes I will presume that you are an adult now. So I just hope that you find something better to spend your time with that involving yourself with a teenaged/young adult’s life and her silly fans.

I used to like Charice because she is a good singer, but I DONT like her now because her fans are so delusional. AND BTW. Just because she has her original songs doesn’t make her a good artists if what she sings are B-rated rejects from other artists, like Louder – Demi Levato reject. (Demi is another talentless Disney star. So that makes Charice even more generic). Which is so generic, compete vile trash. I can name 100000000 songs that sounds exactly like it. These so called Chasters are the epitome of standom, and stupidity. They GLORIFY Charice as if she’s the biggest pop-star that ever existed. Why can’t they accept the fact that 99% of her fans are Filipinos. And don’t even bring up the so called, non-filipino, foreigners who mob and support her. And don’t bring up that pitiful #1 Chart position that Pyramid held on that Hot/Dance Remix reject chart that prolly accounts for 0.001% of the total chart sales.
Give me 1 video where she was mobbed by foreigners. (Foreign-Filipinos don’t count. So that leaves with maybe 10 people.)
I for a fact am NOT disregarding her vocal ability that she possesses. It’s the STYLE in which she sings, and her LACK of identity in the music industry that I’m not buying. Pyramid sounds like a Jojo reject, by the way.
And her hooking up with Nick Jonas with One Day doesn’t give Charice more credibility, as Nick Jonas himself is not really a talented singer. To a lot of Filipinos, he is a musical prodigy because he’s white, and good looking. But nonetheless, he makes the most horrible music out there. One Day is a complete vile piece of generic trash. The message of the song is good, but the song itself, is just unbearable to even listen to. It’s as cheesy as it gets. If she is so big now, then why does her One Day Music Video still sits at 400,000 views? If all foreigners know her? And don’t even call me a Sarah Geronimo fan, or any of those try-hard Filipino karaoke singers out there. I am a Filipino, but I DESPISE our entertainment industry.
I AM a big Mariah Carey fan, and if she did in ‘fact’ say that Filipinos are copycat, then it is the truth. We are nothing but big copycats. It is true. We rather drink Starbucks, than local coffee. We rather buy “brand” name items because they’re American. And you wonder why we’re entitled as monkeys.
Back to Charice. I cant’ emphasize it enough. She SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS.
Most mainstream listeners think of her as a joke and unoriginal. So what if she sings AMAZING. So does Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, and many other singers. And don’t even bring My Queen Mariah Carey to this. I’ll laugh when I see Charice’s new album debut at #50 with 5k sold. Let’s face it. The Oprah effect has long died, and now she is left hanging by a thread.
Charice stans are so delusional. WHO CARES if people give her standing ovations? Did they buy the album? Hell no. They couldn’t even care less about her. Even Jackie Evancho’s album has sold more than 1.5 million copies, and guess what she’s only 10.
I’m not going to criticize David Foster, or any of his work because he is in good terms with my idol.
Until then, call me when Charice’s new album sells 500,000 copies world wide, let alone the states. I think I 500,000 is way to generous… no?
